  • 2 ways to win: Phone Banking and Door Knocking

Contest #1: Freedom Phones – In order to be eligible to win in this category, you must make a minimum of five hours of phone calls for AFP. The prize will be awarded to the individual who makes the most total calls after calling for at least five hours. The Field Coordinator will award one phone banking champion per week. An individual is only eligible to win two times in the eight remaining weeks. This enables you to win a trip for yourself and a spouse or friend (double occupancy).

Contest #2: Door Knocking – In order to be eligible to win in this category, you must spend a minimum of two hours knocking on doors for AFP. For every two hours spent walking and knocking, your name will be entered into a fishbowl. The more hours spent, the higher the chances your name will be drawn. On November 6th, your Field Coordinator will draw four names from the fishbowl to determine the contest winners (limit two per person).

*Please note, the limit is two wins per person per category. Therefore, an individual could potentially win a total of FOUR trips. Additional trips won can be transferred to your spouse and/or friend(s). Once an individual has won a trip, he/she may also purchase an additional trip for a spouse or friend at the discounted rate of $150.00.

AFP Phone Bank Competition

Americans for Prosperity Phone Banking

Join us as we phone bank spreading the message of economic freedom.  Our phone bank system is night and day different than the phone banks of years past.  We are using a predictive dialer to help us maximize our reach and efficiency of the phone bank.  With each person dialed into the system, on average 3 – 5 calls are outbound.  For every additional phone banker logged into the system, it exponentially increases the number of dials and number of connections with a live person.  When a call is connected, you will speak to a live person with the exception of a voice mail or fax every so often.

Phone Bank Competition

Beginning September 3, we will start a phone bank competition.  The top 3 phone bankers with the most answered calls with receive a prize – a gift certificate to the restaurant or gas station of their choice. 1st place: $30, 2nd place: $20, 3rd place: $10!  A NEW WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED EVERY WEEK.

Scores will reset every Monday at 9am!  You can call from home or at one of the AFP offices.  If you call from home, you can call from 9am – 9pm.  If you are interested in participating, please see me, Kathy, for your own personal PIN.  You can reach me on my cell phone 954-815-4307 or email KSalerno@afphq.org.

Early Voting Begins August 4th for the August 14th Primary

Early voting for the August 14th Primary begins tomorrow, Saturday August 4th. Hopefully – you’ve had a chance to meet the candidates and review them in our Voters’ Guide. There still remain a few opportunities to interact with candidates early next week at two joint efforts between South Florida 912 and the Jupiter/PBG Chapter of the Palm Beach County Tea Party – Fl District 82 Forum and Senate Candidate Dave Weldon on Monday, and at the Boca Raton Chapter Candidate Round Up on Tuesday.

Early voting times are from Saturday, August 4th through Saturday, August 11th from 10am to 6pm Daily.

See the Early Voting page for the early voting locations and driving directions. There are 12 locations so there’s no excuse – go to whichever one is convenient for you! As you know – during early voting you can vote anywhere in the county.

You should have already received your voter registration card as well as sample ballots. If you didn’t receive a new card – look up your precinct at the Precinct Finder which will also bring up a link to your sample ballot. Please recall that there are Open Primaries and Non-Partisan races in which No Party Affiliation registered voters can participate. So check out the tool no matter your affiliation.

It is still possible to request or pick up an Absentee Ballot – see the Absentee Ballot information page of the Supervisor of Elections on how to do so.

There are a lot of important non partisan elections on the ballot that affect you and your family!

Please Vote – even if you don’t usually participate in primaries!

Five for Florida

On Monday evening, Slade O’Brien, Florida Director for American’s for Prosperity, rolled out the AFP initiative for state government called “Five for Florida” at the Renassance Hotel in Boca Raton.

One of the most ambitious initiatives that I have seen to influence the state Legislature to uphold conservative principles, the program lays out 5 key issues that candidates and incumbents alike can embrace and promote.

Potential legislators are asked to “endorse” the plan, as are local grassroots activists, who are also asked to bring pressure on the candidates to endorse and follow through.

As Slade pointed out, we have a Republican Governor, House and Senate, and will likely have the same after the November election. Why can’t they govern more conservatively? AFP was very critical at the passage of HB7117, which they described as “crony capitalism” as it gave away tax credits to “green energy” companies and lets the state pick the winners and losers. Governor Scott let this become law by default, passing on the opportunity to veto the bill. One of the “Five for Florida” initiatives addresses just this problem by eliminating targeted tax credits altogether. It should be said that every one of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation voted for this bill, with the brave exception of Senator Joe Negron (old S28).

In a year without a Presidential election, this would be a plan worthy of grassroots effort, and it will take a significant amount of groundwork to influence the candidates to get involved, given the establishment pressures from recipients of corporate welfare to ignore it. My fear is that with so many other issues and candidates to support through the August primaries and November election, it will be hard to find the time and resources it would require. You be the judge.

The plan can be viewed in its entirety at fiveforflorida.com, but the 5 key issues are listed here:

  • Reform Taxes and end Corporate Welfare

Eliminate the corporate income tax and all targeted tax credits and exemptions. Get Government out of the business of picking winners and losers in the marketplace.

  • Don’t Make Financial Promises Taxpayers can’t Keep
Stop supporting financially unsustainable programs like the FRS pension program – require all new government employees to be placed in 401K style retirement programs instead.
  • Be Stewards of Good, Transparent Government
Let sun shine on state spending – make all state contracts public, allowing for transparency and accountability for billions of taxpayer dollars.
  • Empower Kids with the Best Education
Expand school choice options by enacting “parent trigger” legislation, creating a statewide Virtual School Charter, requiring funding parity for Charter Schools and expanding successful programs like Step-Up for Students.
  • Free Entrepreneurs to Pursue the American Dream
Eliminate unnecessary regulations and licensing & make permitting transparent and streamlined.

If a few local candidates for state office come forward to endorse Five for Florida, we will start displaying the program logo:

on the voters guide pages.

Let us know what you think.

July 4th Mall “Meet-ups”, in Boca, Wellington, and Palm Beach Gardens!

Video from
Memorial Day Rally

This past Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th, nearly 30 patriots from the Boca Chapter met up at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton.  Dressed in full Patriotic regalia, our group met to honor those who served this great country in our armed services.  We met quite early, before there were a lot of people there at the mall, but we definitely left an impression on those who were there.

The purpose of meeting up was to take a stand for our country in a very public way, to simply express our love for our country.  Clearly, we had gathered intentionally—dressed patriotically, holding flags, and enjoying fellowship with one another.  We gathered in a very open and conspicuous area, which was in the foyer area from the main entrance to the mall on the north side.  Loosely organized, there was no official “format” or “program” that we followed.  We recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the National Anthem, and Al Raden read a list of names- the names of every soldier from Florida who was killed in action since the previous Memorial Day.  Ron Gaynor read an excellent short speech from Abraham Lincoln.  We closed by singing God Bless America.

As we disbanded, a number of people inquired about our group, and we were equipped with Palm Beach County Tea Party business cards, as well as flyers for our upcoming meeting with Slade O’Brien that we just had in June.  In all, we were at the mall for just about an hour.

We greatly encourage everyone who can, to JOIN US to do the very same thing on July 4th!  Our respective chapter groups will gather at 10:30 am at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington, and Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens.  Pick the one closest to you, and let your voice be heard!  Let us demonstrate solidarity for the future of this country—that there are people who still care—and that the Tea Party is alive and well, and present and accounted for in our communities!!!

A Call To Action – Phone banking with Americans For Prosperity

Hello Fellow Patriots,

The Palm Beach County Tea Party is joining forces with Americans for Prosperity in the effort to motivate voters to vote conservatively in the August primaries and in the November elections.

To this end, we will start a phone banking program next Wednesday, June 27th. Once you have trained on the simple phone calling process you can make the phone calls from home or join us every Wednesday evening for a group phone banking session. We will continue to do this throughout the election season.

The Jupiter/PBG chapter will be conducting the Wednesday telephone banking sessions from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. You can join us at any time during this time period. Phones and refreshments will be provided!

Location: 3970 RCA Blvd Suite # 7003, Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Click here for directions.   Note that the office is on the north side of the building directly across from the Hampton Inn. The office is in the same building as the WPBF25 TV studio (go down the hallway just west of the studio entrance).

We are asking all conservatives who would like to help us in this essential effort, to volunteer to assist during these sessions. Please notify us by telephone at (561) 444-8086 or by E mail info@palmbeachcountyteaparty if you will be willing to help us. Terri Gallaher or Joe Burge will be leading this telephoning work and they will provide any necessary telephone system explanations and directions to the office.

Remember, this is the same type of Tea Party effort that was an essential factor in Wisconsin Governor Walker’s great recall victory!

Similar phone banking programs are being developed in our Wellington and Boca Raton Chapters.

Is the Senate Race Over?

With George LeMieux quitting the Senate race and endorsing Connie Mack IV, is the race over?

Senator LeMieux listed two reasons for his exit: 1) RPOF and the “powers that be”, presumably including FreedomWorks, have thrown their support to Connie Mack, making it hard for LeMieux and others to find sufficient funds to run a state-wide media campaign against the deep pockets of Connie Mack and his supporters and 2) Congressman Mack refuses to come out and debate his Republican rivals, precluding any “free” publicity for the challengers and closing the door on any discussion of issues.

With money and media a major requirement, Mike McCalister, MarieLena Stuart, Ron MacNeil and the others would seem to be at a major disadvantage. Dave Weldon would be also, given his late entry.

The Weldon campaign plans to fight though. From what I heard today from a campaign staffer, many grassroots coordinators from the LeMieux campaign are coming over to Weldon.

In a conference call immediately following his announcement, Congressman Weldon did not particularly impress. His website was content-free, he seemed unprepared, and lacked detailed knowledge of many of the issues important to the grassroots. That has changed. He now has a well developed set of policy positions (see: daveweldonforsenate.com/issues/ ) which are clearly conservative and counter to the Obama/Nelson agenda, he is gathering endorsements (Sam Brownback, Citizens United Political Victory Fund), and stepping up fundraising.

The near term plan is to bulk up the number of small contributors to show grassroots strength and his phonebank is asking for $5-10 donations in the next couple of days to make the case.

Will he be a credible challenge to Mack? I don’t know, but it is a shame to see the primary end today with a whimper. I gave him a small contribution and plan to watch what happens. If you are not comfortable with Connie Mack as the presumptive nominee, you could do the same.
