Putin’s quiet Latin America play

. Away from the conflict in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin is quietly seeking a foothold in Latin America, military officials warn. To the alarm of lawmakers and Pentagon officials, Putin has begun sending navy ships and long-range bombers to the region for the first time in years. Russia’s defense minister says the country is planning bases in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, and just last week, Putin’s national security team met to discuss increasing military ties in the region.

Nation’s elite cancer hospitals off-limits under Obamacare

. Cancer patients relieved that they can get insurance coverage because of the new health care law may be disappointed to learn that some of the nation’s best cancer hospitals are off-limits. An Associated Press survey found examples coast to coast. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is excluded by five out of eight insurers in Washington state’s insurance exchange. MD Anderson Cancer Center says it’s in less than half of the plans in the Houston area. Memorial Sloan-Kettering is included by two of nine insurers in New York City and has out-of-network agreements with two more.

Union representatives join federal government safety inspectors on site visits to nonunion businesses

. SEIU and other labor unions can accompany the government inspectors on site visits due to a quiet and contested Obama administration rule clarification issued last year in response to a request from a union representative.

Pa: 28th Senate District Write-In Candidate Scott Wagner Wins Special Election

. Businessman Scott Wagner was elected March 18 to represent York County in the 28th Senate District. Voters picked Wagner, an upset victory over Republican-establishment nominee Rep. Ron Miller, and Democrat nominee Linda Small.

Libs demand removal of Rush Limbaugh from Children’s Choice Book Award contest

. A contest among children’s book authors has sparked a firestorm of complaints from liberals after conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was named among the contestants for author of the year. The Children’s Book Council holds the contest each year , selecting the top authors based on book sales. Limbaugh has seen tremendous success with last year’s, “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans,” and he recently released a sequel, “Rush Revere and the First Patriots” – which already hit No. 5 on The New York Times bestseller list.

Stop All aboard Florida from using the FEC train tracks.

. They should build new tracks or use existing rail tracks west of our towns. If AAF is allowed to utilize the coastal rail tracks as planned, there will be an additional run of 32 passenger trains per day through our coastal towns and over our old bridges. How will the noise affect residents living near the rail tracks? How congested will traffic become? What about safey concerns in our coastal towns? This will cause longer commutes to work, it could affect emergency response times. The train bridge in Stuart, for example, spans the intracoastal waterway. If this bridge is down an average of 20 minutes per train as it is today at a minimum, the bridge could be down 15-18 hours per day! The projected number of trains is up to 50 freight and passenger trains per day! How can the Coast Guard respond to emergencies in a timely manner? How can commerce utilize the intracoastal? What will happen to the waterfront home and business values that have been affected by the railroad along the East Coast? AAF needs to change their course from Miami to Orlando!

Deep freeze means rare rise in Great Lakes water levels

. It looks as if there will be at least one positive from the deep freeze the Midwest endured this winter, and sportsmen, farmers, fish and the shipping industry all stand to benefit. Water levels in the Great Lakes are expected to rise, and it isn’t just because of all the melting snow. The ice that nearly covered all five lakes for the first time since 1978 has also trapped water below, preventing the evaporation that has seen the enormous bodies of water slowly shrinking for decades. But even with the estimated rise of 13-15 inches, the levels are still well below historic levels.

Arne Duncan: ‘Worth Considering’ Giving Athletes Free Grad School Education

. Education Secretary Arne Duncan on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday said it was “worth considering” giving student athletes a free graduate school education in addition to the free ride they already get for undergrad.

When terrorists become pharmacists

. Do you know where your medications come from? It might be from an international terrorist drug ring. A new study from the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism finds that terror group Hezbollah is “already involved in manufacturing and distributing counterfeit medications.” Institute director Boaz Ganor says that “Hezbollah is liable to use its production centers, international smuggling and distribution networks, and ties to international crime syndicates to insert deadly fake drugs into the pharmaceuticals market.”

Homeland Security Exercise Targets “Free Americans Against Socialist Tyranny”

. Leaked Homeland Security documents obtained by Infowars reveal details of a joint DHS/FEMA national exercise set to take place this week, one of the components of which revolves around an effort to counter online dissent by a group called “Free Americans Against Socialist Tyranny,” which is disgruntled at the imposition of martial law after an earthquake in Alaska.

DOJ: We Have No ‘Conflict of Interest’ in Investigating IRS Targeting of Tea Party

. The Department of Justice said in a letter sent this month to Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) that Attorney General Eric Holder has determined that his department has no “conflict of interest” in investigating the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of Tea Party and conservative groups and that Holder, therefore, will not name a special prosecutor in the case.

Scientists say ‘californium’ could revolutionize radioactive waste storage and recycling

. Florida State Professor Thomas Albrecht-Schmitt calls “californium,” or Cf on the Periodic Table of Elements, “wicked stuff” because of its incredible ability to bond and separate other materials along with its resistance to radiation damage. Albrecht-Schmitt’s research could lead to new types of storage containers for radioactive waste and separate radioactive fuel — meaning fuel could be recycled.

Indiana becomes first state to officially reject Common Core

. Gov. Mike Pence, R-Ind., signed a bill into law Monday requiring the state to adopt its own standards, according to a statement from his office. “I believe our students are best served when decisions about education are made at the state and local level. By signing this legislation, Indiana has taken an important step forward in developing academic standards that are written by Hoosiers, for Hoosiers, and are uncommonly high, and I commend members of the General Assembly for their support.

What Would Happen If A Giant Tsunami Hit Florida?

. Can you imagine the devastation that would be caused if a massive wall of water several hundred feet high slammed into Florida at more than 100 miles an hour? To many people such a scenario is impossible, but that is what people living along the Indian Ocean thought before the 2004 tsunami and that is what people living in Japan thought before the 2011 tsunami. Throughout history, giant tsunamis have been relatively rare events, but they do happen. Scientists tell us that a mega-tsunami can race across the open ocean at up to 500 miles an hour, and when they reach shore they can produce waves that are hundreds of feet high. And even though authorities claim that the threat to Florida is “remote”, it might surprise you to learn that there are “Tsunami Hazard Zone” signs on Florida beaches. If a highly unusual event (such as a giant meteor hitting the Atlantic Ocean) caused a giant tsunami that hit Florida, the devastation would be absolutely unimaginable
.

EPA, Corps propose expanded Clean Water Act authority

. The Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers applied a narrow Supreme Court opinion from 2006 to propose a rule Tuesday that would expand federal jurisdiction over streams, wetlands and other waters. Once published in the Federal Register, the agencies will accept public comment for 90 days. The agencies say the proposed rule is based on a reported titled Connectivity of Streams and Wetlands to Downstream Waters: A Review and Synthesis of the Scientific Evidence. The report, at the time the rule was proposed, has not been finalized and is still undergoing peer review. Agricultural groups have questioned how the agency can purport to base a proposed rule on a report that has not been finalized.

Dispatches from the War against Vote Fraud

. To the extent that anything resembling a logical argument against common-sense voter ID requirements exists at all, it’s predicated on the idea that vote fraud hardly ever happens. The idea that we should indulge relatively rare crimes by making things easy for the criminals is novel; I can’t think of too many other examples. And really, the “vote fraud is incredibly rare” mantra is only a minor sideshow act Democrats perform to make themselves look reasonable. The main strategic thrust of the war against voter ID is to use it as an excuse to smear its proponents as racist vote suppressors, while keeping a certain level of dubious ballots on standby for close races.

. The Obama administration’s immigration polities have provided a de facto amnesty for most of the illegal immigrants living in the United States, according to Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions. “Under the guise of setting ‘priorities,’ the Administration has determined that almost anyone in the world who can enter the United States is free to illegally live, work and claim benefits here as long as they are not caught committing a felony or other serious crime,”

Rep. Patrick Murphy Refuses To Face Constituents, Opponents At Town Hall Meeting

. Even as the Obamacare Tax Collection law he voted for begins, U. S. Representative Patrick Murphy (D) is refusing to face his constituents at the May 15 Town Hall of the St. Lucie West, Florida Taxpayers organization while all of his opponents graciously will appear.

Boehner Won’t Attend Anti-Tea Party PAC’s Ritzy Florida Retreat But top two lieutenants are speakers.

. House Speaker John Boehner will not be attending a weekend retreat hosted by The Republican Mainstreet Partnership PAC — whose goal is to elect moderate GOP candidates and protect Republican incumbents from Tea Party challengers — because of a scheduling conflict, a GOP aide told CNSNews.com.

This Common Core math problem asks kids to write the ‘friendly’ answer, instead of the correct one!

. A second grader’s answers to a Common Core-aligned math worksheet were marked as incorrect because they weren’t “friendly” enough… even though they were the right answers. The teacher wanted the student to solve “530 – 270 = ?” in the following manner: First, add 30 to both numbers, changing the problem to “560 – 300 = ?”. These numbers are the “friendly” numbers, because they are supposedly easier to work with. The student, however, simply subtracted 270 from 530 the good old-fashioned way, arriving at the same answer. Unfortunately, this is not a Common Core-approved technique.

Obamacare Navigators Helping People Enroll At Mexican Consulates

. The Obama administration has been helping to facilitate a series of events nationwide at Mexican Consulate offices to enroll people in Obamacare – and a key activist says the efforts are “our responsibility” regardless of citizenship. “Whether they’re Mexican nationals or whether they’re United States citizens or whether they’re in transition– and if they’re there it is our responsibility within all of America to educate on the Affordable Care Act,” Enroll America Field Organizer Jose Medrano told Breitbart News on Wednesday.

Obama’s “Kantian” decision to kill Tomahawk and Hellfire missiles

. Two different schools of thought clearly define the ideological separation between Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin. Obama follows the school of philosophy of Immanuel Kant who believed that experience is purely subjective without first being processed by pure reason. He also said that using reason without applying it to experience only leads to theoretical illusions — in Obama’s case delusions. Putin, well, he certainly follows Niccolo Machiavelli and his beliefs, as articulated in The Prince, that violence may be necessary for the successful stabilization of power and introduction of new legal institutions. Force may be used to eliminate political rivals, to coerce resistant populations, and to purge the community of other men strong enough of character to rule, who will inevitably attempt to replace the ruler.

State expected to suspend all efforts to ‘purge’ non-citizen voters

. Facing overwhelming resistance from county election supervisors in a busy election year, Gov. Rick Scott’s administration is expected to suspend all efforts in 2014 to comb the Florida voter rolls of suspected non-citizens.

. Texas A&M did the math, and even Senator Ted Cruz agrees: These are the results according to Texas A&M: 1. Reagan and Lincoln tied for first; 2. Seventeen presidents tied for second; 3. Twenty-three other presidents tied for third; 4. Jimmy Carter came in fourth; 5. Obama was fifth .

Obama Seeks Executive Options To Aid Illegal Aliens

. President Barack Obama has launched an internal review on how he can provide additional leniency to illegal aliens inside the United States of America, the White House announced on Thursday evening. Obama “has asked Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to do an inventory of the Department’s current practices to see how it can conduct enforcement more humanely within the confines of the law,” the White House said in a Thursday press release.

. Will emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere cause tornadoes in Los Angeles and massive floods in the Himalayas? A growing body of research suggests it may just spur plant growth and green planet Earth.

Russia suspected of pulling billions of dollars out of the US Fed’s grasp

. Billions of dollars in foreign owned currency holdings have been pulled out of the United States and there’s growing suspicion that the culprit is Russia attempting to circumvent any sanctions that the US may levy against the nation over the intensifying Ukrainian situation.

House Report Traces IRS Scandal to Obama

. A House committee investigating the IRS scandal has found a link between President Obama’s criticism of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision and subsequent steps taken by IRS official Lois Lerner to discriminate against conservative groups. Lerner was responding to political pressure in her efforts to clamp down on conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status in the wake of the 2012 Supreme Court case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, concluded a 141-page report released last Tuesday by the Republican-majority staff of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee

Fla. TV Station Exposes Voter Fraud, DOJ Sues State to Stop Purging Rolls

. While the Obama Justice Department mounts a legal challenge against Florida for purging ineligible voters from its rolls, a television news station broadcasts an unbelievable segment that proves non U.S. citizens living in the Sunshine State vote regularly in elections.

Ukraine’s Gold Reserves Secretely Flown Out and Confiscated by the New York Federal Reserve?

. A Russian Internet news site Iskra (“Spark”) based in Zaporozhye, eastern Ukraine, reported on March 7, that “Ukraine’s gold reserves had been hastily airlifted to the United States from Borispol Airport east of Kiev”. This alleged airlift and confiscation of Ukraine’s gold reserves by the New York Federal Reserve has not been confirmed by the Western media.

Professor Wants Climate Change “Deniers” Thrown in Jail

. An assistant philosophy professor at Rochester Institute of Technology has proposed a bold plan to settle the debate on Global Warming. Lawrence Torcello wrote an essay suggesting that scientists who fail to fall in line with global warming alarmists should be charged with criminal negligence, and possibly even be thrown in jail. Nothing screams academic freedom like a little intellectual Fascism. Right?

How to Hide Billions in Taxpayer Money and Get Away With It

. The Treasury is keeping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the taxpayer-backed loan guarantee giants, off the federal budget. In 2008, the government took control of Fannie and Freddie and agreed to shield the entities from bankruptcy. Now that the country has recovered from that housing crisis, and money is coming back in through these government-sponsored entities (GSEs), their true cost remains hidden. “The GSEs’ off-budget status excludes them from federal budget rules and processes, and hides the real cost to taxpayers from federal control over Fannie and Freddie,” explains Heritage’s Romina Boccia in a new report.

. Like the bully taking candy away from the proverbial baby, high-handed President Barack Hussein Obama is giving away the Internet that is in no way his to give. His latest act of out-and-out thievery graduates him from the most unpopular American president of all time, to Enemy of the Free World Numero Uno.

If Spying on Senate is So Bad, Why is it OK For Them To Spy On Us?

. The reaction of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to last week’s revelations that the CIA secretly searched Senate Intelligence Committee computers reveals much about what the elites in government think about the rest of us. “Spy on thee, but not on me!” The hypocrisy of Sen. Feinstein is astounding. She is the biggest backer of the NSA spying on the rest of us, but when the tables are turned and her staff is the target she becomes irate. But there is more to it than that. There is an attitude in Washington that the laws Congress passes do not apply to Members. They can trample our civil liberties, they believe, but it should never affect their own freedom.

The Hidden Rot in the Jobs Numbers

. Most commentators viewed the February jobs report released on March 7 as good news, indicating that the labor market is on a favorable growth path. A more careful reading shows that employment actually fell—as it has in four out of the past six months and in more than one-third of the months during the past two years. Although it is often overlooked, a key statistic for understanding the labor market is the length of the average workweek. Small changes in the average workweek imply large changes in total hours worked. The average workweek in the U.S. has fallen to 34.2 hours in February from 34.5 hours in September 2013, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That decline, coupled with mediocre job creation, implies that the total hours of employment have decreased over the period.

Beijing’s breakneck defense spending poses a challenge to the U.S.

. China presents the rest of the world with a puzzle when it announces, each year, another big leap in defense spending. On March 5, it revealed a 12.2?percent increase over last year, to almost $132 billion, the second-largest military budget in the world after the United States (which remains far larger at $526.8 billion). The puzzle is not whether China can afford such a budget — clearly it can — but what does it need it for? What are China’s intentions and capabilities?

Court Ruling Allows Republicans in Congress to Sue Obama for Corruption

Outrageously, the Virginia state legislature has passed a Democrat-sponsored resolution “commending” the notorious 9/11 mosque — Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center — “as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the” center. Six months after a mentally deranged gunman killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Tuesday announced what his department will do to “close troubling gaps” in DOD’s ability to prevent a government employee, a member of the military, or a contractor from inflicting harm on other Defense Department employees. Much of the focus is on the 2.5 million individuals who currently hold active security clearances. Hagel said the Defense Department will begin to continuously evaluate people with security clearances, setting up “automated reviews” that will continuously pull information from law enforcement and other government databases.

A new survey of 1,213 business owners found that unemployment would increase as would prices of goods and services. 54% said they would reduce hiring and 65% said they would be increasing the prices of their good or service. Additionally, the survey found that 38% of those employers would lay off workers if they had to follow a minimum wage increase. 213 of the survey’s respondents currently pay their employees minimum wage.

. Police in LA have attempted to justify an Automatic License Plate Reader surveillance program by claiming that every single car in the city is part of a criminal investigation. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) recently acquired documents under the Freedom Of Information Act that show the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department in LA argued that “All [license plate] data is investigatory.” The law enforcement departments also stated that the fact that the data will likely never be connected to any specific crime is insignificant.

The man who helped design Obamacare is telling Americans to get ready to “kiss your insurance company good-bye, forever.” It’s going the way of the dodo bird. “The good news is you won’t have insurance companies to kick around much longer,” bioethicist Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, one of the guiding lights behind Obamacare and author of “Reinventing American Health Care,” wrote in an op-ed column published in The New Republic. “The system is changing.”

Homeland Security Used Intercepted Emails to Quiz Woman About Her Sex Life

. A woman who was detained without cause at Indianapolis International Airport has filed suit saying federal officials violated her constitutional rights. The case was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana on behalf of Christine Von Der Haar, a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University. In June of 2012, Von Der Haar accompanied a friend to the airport’s office of Customs and Border Protection to pick up computer equipment he had shipped separately when he flew to Indianapolis a few days earlier. The customs agent, after asking the couple if they were planning to marry, questioned them separately about email communications and the nature of their relationship, and confined Dr. Von Der Haar in a guarded room for more than 20 minutes.

. Identified as “kindergarten math homework,” the problem reads: In each cube stick , color some cubes blue and the rest of the cubes red. Draw the cubes you colored in the number bond. As indicated, the problem references “cube sticks,” “number bonds” and “hidden partners” — terms that leave many a grown adult dumbfounded.

. Top administration officials have directed 21,000 border patrol officers to retreat whenever illegal immigrants throw rocks at them, and to avoid getting in front of foreign drug-smugglers’ vehicles as they head north with their drug shipments.

The Agriculture and Health and Human Services departments are updating the guidelines for publication next year. By favoring foods activists think have a smaller carbon footprint, the new guidelines will increase the prices you pay for what you eat. It will also increase the cost to all taxpayers, since the dietary guidelines are used to set policy for food stamps and military diets.

A federal appeals court is being asked to reverse a lower court decision that banned the American Freedom Defense Initiative from featuring in a bus ad the faces of men already identified by the U.S. government as suspected terrorists. “This case is a classic articulation of political correctness as a form of tyranny, which violates our fundamental right to freedom [of] speech guaranteed by the First Amendment,” said Robert Muise, co-founder of the American Freedom Law Center, which is working on the AFDI case.

. Palm Beach County commissioners voted this morning to receive and file a county attorney’s memo regarding Seven50, essentially ending any more debate on the regional planning blueprint. County commissioner Steven Abrams voted against the motion. He had suggested the county consider “opting out” as a symbolic gesture to appease residents who oppose the plan. But commissioners abided by the advice of assistant county attorney Bob Banks, who told them the county cannot legally delegate away its authority by participating in Seven50. A group of about 20 opponents, including six who spoke against the plan, quietly left the commission chambers after the vote. The leader of the Palm Beach County tea Party had asked the county to hold a Town Hall meeting on Seven50 before taking any action.

. What do you do when government fails? I mean, when government Really Fails? Which is the present situation in which we are immersed. But wait, as so many TV ads tell us, it keeps getting worse. We are not only seeing the federal government failing in what it should be doing, but also involved in the most egregious actions which speak directly of tyranny. How else would one describe swarms of swat troops – 30 strong – battering down a homeowner’s door to arrest him for possessing a dud 12 gauge shotgun shell? Or constantly harassing a woman for giving speeches encouraging “legal” voting practices? Or cutting off agricultural water for the sake of a minnow? Or shutting down hundreds of coal-fired electric plants which will eventually double, triple or quadruple the price of keeping our inane government-forced expensive squiggly light bulbs lit. Ah, the questions are too many…and no answers are forthcoming.

President Obama says his new budget will finally end the dreary “era of austerity.” If Obama thinks record-high spending, massive deficits and a doubling of the debt are austere, what does he consider indulgent? Let’s take a look at some of the overall budget numbers. It’s true that federal spending declined in the past two years, but that’s only because it reached fantastic heights in Obama’s first two years, thanks to the massive stimulus program.

. The number of Americans that renounced their citizenship was 221 percent higher in 2013 than it was in 2012. That is a staggering figure, and it is symptomatic of a larger trend. In recent years, a lot of really good people with very deep roots in this country have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to the United States permanently. A few actually go to the trouble to renounce their citizenship, and that is mostly done for tax purposes. But most willingly choose to leave America for other reasons. Some were very serious when they said they would leave the U.S. if Barack Obama got a second term, some (such as Jesse Ventura) are dismayed at how our freedoms and liberties are eroding and are alarmed at the rise of the Big Brother police state, some are absolutely disgusted by the social and moral decay that is eating away at the foundations of our society, and there are yet others that consider “the grass to be greener” on the other side of the planet. Personally, I have a number of friends that have made the very hard decision to relocate their families thousands of miles away because they see what is coming to America and they believe that there isn’t any hope of turning things around at this point. I also have a lot of friends that are determined to stay in the United States no matter what. When it comes to the future of America, almost everyone has a very strong opinion, and these are discussions that we need to start having.

. In the Obamacare conversation, dental health care flies under the radar — a scary reality, say many dentists, who fear the new federal law will trigger an oral health crisis. They say Obamacare looks good for children, but disastrous for adults — particularly middle class adults, because it provides nothing for them. Those who currently have dental health insurance through their employers will lose it when they are forced into an Affordable Care Act (ACA), or Obamacare, exchange plan.

DARPA Continues To Push “Black Box” Brain Chip

. Pentagon wants to “help” soldiers and seniors by implanting devices to trigger memories. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the research arm of the military, is continuing to develop implantable brain chips, according to documents newly posted as part of the agency’s increased “transparency” policy. The agency is seeking to develop a portable, wireless device that “must incorporate implantable probes” to record and stimulate brain activity – in effect, a memory triggering ‘black box’ device. The process would entail placing wires inside the brain, and under the scalp, with electrical impulses fired up through a transmitter placed under the skin of the chest area.

They live in a nice country with stunning mountains and all that, but aren’t we perfectly happy to be Americans? Of course those in the know, particularly Paul’s enthusiasts, understood the libertarian presidential candidate’s reference: that Americans were rejecting the economic ideas of John Maynard Keynes that encouraged government intervention and provided intellectual ballast for the New Deal. Instead, they were coming around to the principles of the anti-government economics of Austrians Friedrich A. Hayek and Ludwig von Mises.

. The trouble with blaming economic inequality for many of our economic ills is that the theory doesn’t fit the facts. The theory (or one popular version) is that growing inequality caused many low- and middle-income Americans to overborrow so they could keep up with wealthier Americans. This borrowing allegedly led to the credit bubble and the Great Recession. Blaming inequality for the credit bubble fails a rudimentary test of logic. That’s right, the same Europeans who used to chastise us for not signing the Kyoto climate change treaty, not passing a carbon tax and dooming the planet to catastrophic global warming. In Brussels last month, European leaders agreed to scrap per-nation caps on carbon emissions.

Tea Party leader ejected from County Commission meeting

.  The handcuffs came out and reinforcements were called in Tuesday afternoon when the head of the Palm Beach County Tea Party was kicked out of a County Commission meeting. A deputy providing security at the meeting decided that Palm Beach County Tea Party President Mel Grossman was talking too loudly in his seat. When the deputy told Grossman to stop, he objected and she told him that he would be removed.

IRS Maneuvering to Regulate Tea Party Groups ‘Hidden From the Public’

.  Documents obtained by the House Ways and Means Committee show that IRS officials first started flagging Tea Party applications for tax-exempt status in February 2010 because of “media attention,” and that Treasury and IRS officials had discussed potentially addressing the tax-exemption rules for such groups “off-plan,” meaning “hidden from the public,” said Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.).

.  The Obama administration has issued new exemptions to a law that bars certain asylum-seekers and refugees who provided “limited material support” to terrorists who are believed to pose no threat from the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security and the State Department published the new exemptions Wednesday in the Federal Register to narrow a ban in the Immigration and Nationality Act excluding refugees and asylum seekers who had provided limited material support, no matter how minor, to terrorists.

.  The Obama administration will announce the establishment of regional hubs focused on mitigating climate change on Wednesday. The hubs are the first-ever regional centers that will focus solely on risk adaptation and climate change solutions at seven locations across the country. “On the heels of passage of the farm bill, the administration will take executive action to help farmers, ranchers and rural communities combat climate change and adapt to extreme weather and other damage it causes,” a White House official said in an email ahead of Wednesday’s announcement

.  A senior US State Department official has allegedly been caught giving an unexpected message to the EU while discussing Ukrainian opposition leaders’ roles in the country’s future government. The phone call was taped and posted on YouTube. “F**k the EU,” Assistant Secretary of State for Europe Victoria Nuland allegedly said in a recent phone call with US ambassador to Kiev Geoffrey Pyatt, as the two were discussing a deal to end the crisis in Ukraine.

.  Environmental Protection Agency investigations yielded more than $5.6 billion in criminal and civil penalties over the past year, the agency said Friday. An annual report containing enforcement and compliance totals from fiscal 2013 shows roughly $4.5 billion worth of fines, restitution and court-ordered environmental projects linked to criminal cases. Civil penalties surpassed $1.1 billion, according to the report.

In other words, it depends on your premises. Historically, “nullification” was defined quite narrowly. It referred to a formal ordinance of a state legislature or state convention that declared a federal law void within the boundaries of the state. The state might or might not make the ordinance conditional, and it might or might not impose criminal or civil penalties on persons attempting to enforce the federal enactment. We can refer to this as the narrow, or historical, definition of nullification. It is traditionally credited to the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

Saul Alinsky (1909-1972) was born in Chicago and was drawn into the world of Chicago gangsters in the 1930s. He held society responsible for creating criminals because criminality was a result of social environment (particularly the system of private property and individual rights), not a character problem. He believed a revolutionary’s purpose should be to undermine society by taking power from the Haves and giving it to the Have-nots. To accomplish this, the ends justify the means, without exception. Since his book, Rules for Radicals, was published in 1971, it has served as an effective recipe to change our country in ways we would have never expected.

How to Create a Social State, by Saul Alinsky

There are 8 levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.

1) Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people.

2) Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).

6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.

7) Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.

8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

.  The U.S. National Security Agency has been gathering nearly 200 million text messages a day from around the world, gathering data on people’s travel plans, contacts and credit card transactions, Britain’s Guardian newspaper reported on Thursday. Code-named “Dishfire,” the NSA program collects “pretty much everything it can,” the Guardian said, citing a joint investigation with the UK’s Channel 4 News based on material from fugitive former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

EPA chief unable to say if the world has gotten warmer

.  Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy wasn’t able to definitively say whether the world has gotten warmer in Senate testimony. Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions asked McCarthy to confirm a statement made by President Obama last year that global temperatures were increasing faster in the last five or ten years than climate scientists had predicted. McCarthy couldn’t answer the question, saying that she only repeats what the climate scientists tell her. Sessions was not satisfied with her response.

Bush more than two decades ago.

In a memo to clients provided to Secrets, David John Marotta calculates the actual unemployment rate of those not working at a sky-high 37.2 percent, not the 6.7 percent advertised by the Fed, and the Misery Index at over 14, not the 8 claimed by the government.

. Italian carmaker Fiat is going to buy the rest of Chrysler it doesn’t already own. Is this what U.S. taxpayers bought when they were forced to keep the Big Three automaker alive? Fiat said Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire “the 41.4616% of Chrysler Group” that it does not currently hold. A day later Reuters reported that Fiat will now “gain full control of Chrysler” after a previous deal engineered by the Obama administration that let Fiat acquire a 58.5% stake in the soon-to-be-former Big Three automaker. The final shares will be sold by a United Auto Workers union-controlled trust fund, which was given its stake after the White House stepped into the process. The deal is expected to close by the end of January. But it won’t end for U.S. taxpayers, who have already lost $10 billion on the General Motors bailout and will continue to lose money in future bailouts until Washington’s klepto culture is changed by the ballot box.

The California Supreme Court has ruled that an undocumented Mexican immigrant should be authorized to the State Bar and practice law, a decision already hailed as a major victory for immigrants trying to win more rights in the US. The court ruled unanimously in favor of Sergio Garcia, who can now begin practicing law immediately despite his status as a non-US citizen. He had challenged a 1996 federal law meant to prohibit people living in the US illegally from being granted a professional license from federal agencies.

. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) decision to enforce regulations on certain small farms amounts to “blatant overreach” that unfairly targets small farmers, a pair of Senate Republicans argues. For decades, Congress has inserted language in appropriations bills prohibiting OSHA – an arm of the Labor Department – from enforcing provisions of the 1976 Occupational Safety and Health Act at farming operations with 10 or fewer employees. Too often for conservatives in Washington, it’s a euphemism for surrender, or at least the indulgence of ever-expanding government. But there are a few things we need a central government for, none more vital than national security. Because a political community’s most important decisions are the ones made about its defense, it is essential that there be broad public buy-in. Compromise is essential. President Obama, however, seems poised to challenge that premise. A report released this week by his hand-picked panel of progressive academics and pliant intelligence veterans recommends turning the clock back to pre-9/11 counterterrorism and turning control of intelligence-gathering over to the courts.
